How are people transformed through their relationships with others?
In the short story "A&P" the cashier has a strange problem. There are girls that enter the store in bikinis that are very distracting to him. He watches them walk through the store instead of focusing on his job. He never used to be like this before these girls entered the store. He used to be a good worker that was always focused. As soon as the girls first entered he was transformed from a hard working cashier to a bikini loving dog. His relationship with his manager was all good until the manager didn't want the girls to wear bikini's in the store. The cashier ended up turning himself into a completely different person because of these girls that didn't even notice him once. He tried to stand up for the bikini girls but the manager didn't care so he quite his job for those girls that didn't even know he was there.
