BBC/Children of the Genocide
The EQ I chose is How can a reader/viewer infer the author's intentions based on the text? It was quite easy for me to infer the author's intentions in the article 'Taken over by Satan'. It was written by Gitera Rwamuhuzi, a Hutu and a participant in the genocide. He wanted to inform us of the tragedies that happened during the genocide and how one could get so easily corrupted by evil. "We were taken over by Satan" was a way that the author put it.
Throughout both articles I had a sense of what was going on in my head. The authors had a lot of details of where it was taking place. In the article 'Taken over by Satan' the author was giving the readers pictures of what they were doing. He said "On the morning of 15 April 1994, each one of us woke up knowing what to do and where to go". The thought of that is mind blowing. Waking up and thinking about committing murder and being a part of a mass murder is disgusting............
